Asad al-Ghabah fi Ma'rifat al-Sahabah | Ibn al-Athir
Asad al-Ghabah fi Ma'rifat al-Sahabah, abbreviated as Asad al-Ghabah, is a book authored by Ibn al-Athir in which he attempted to thoroughly compile all of the Companions (those who accompanied the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) and their biographies. In the introduction to the book, the author mentions his intention to encompass four main works from the "Companions" books that were written before him, which are the works of Abu Abdullah bin Mandah and Abu Nu'aym Ahmad bin Abdullah (whom he described as two great memorizers of Hadith), Abu Omar bin Abd al-Barr al-Qurtubi (whom he described as the Imam), and Abu Musa Muhammad bin Abi Bakr bin Abi Isa al-Isfahani, completing the work of Ibn Mandah, in addition to others whom he mentions, such as Abu Ali al-Ghassani. He said of Abu Omar bin Abd al-Barr (and says that he added what was overlooked by his predecessors and rectified errors), and he frequently refers to his sources within the text of his book.
