• In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
• [Introduction]

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, guidance, and forgiveness. We repent to Him, and seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our souls and the wickedness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can lead astray, and whomsoever Allah leads astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. May Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, his family, and companions, a great peace.

To proceed:

These are principles and rules for interpreting the Holy Quran, of great value and immense benefit. They help the reader and contemplator to understand the words of Allah, to be guided by them, and their knowledge is greater than their description. For they open for the servant ways of interpretation, and a method of understanding from Allah, which suffices for many interpretations devoid of these useful researches.

I ask Allah and implore Him to complete what we intended to present, and to open for us from the treasures of His bounty and generosity what will be a cause for attaining beneficial knowledge and complete guidance.

Know that the science of Tafsir (Quranic interpretation) is the noblest of all sciences, the best, the most obligatory, and the most beloved to Allah. This is because Allah commanded us to ponder His book, reflect on its meanings, and be guided by its verses. He praised those who do so, placed them in the highest ranks, and promised them the most exalted gifts. If a servant were to spend the jewels of his life in this art, it would not be much in comparison to what is the noblest of pursuits, the greatest of objectives, the root of all roots, and the foundational rule for happiness in both worlds, and the rectification of religious, worldly, and afterlife affairs. Through it, the servant attains a life flourishing with guidance, goodness, and mercy, and Allah prepares for him the best life and enduring good deeds.

Let us now proceed with mentioning the rules and regulations in a concise manner that achieves the objective, because when the door is opened for the servant, and the causes are paved by understanding the rule, and he trains on it with several examples that clarify it and show its path and method, he will not need further elaboration and extensive details. We ask Allah Almighty to grant us His help, grace, and success, and to make us guides and guided by His grace, generosity, and benevolence.
