"Mughni al-Muhtaj ila Ma'rifat Ma'ani Alfaz al-Minhaj" by Al-Khatib Al-Shirbini (died 977 AH) is a Fiqh book on the Shafi'i madhhab. In it, the author explained Imam Al-Nawawi's (died 676 AH) book "Minhaj al-Talibin", clarifying its meanings, expounding on its concepts and pronouncements, revealing its hidden depths, and bringing forth its secrets. It is a moderate explanation, free from redundancy and lengthy elaborations, encompassing evidence and reasoning, clarifying what is relied upon from the statements of Al-Shafi'i, his companions, and later scholars, following Al-Nawawi's ذكر of the stronger and weaker opinions, so that the book may serve as a reference for the Mufti, the student, and others.
Al-Shirbini Al-Khatib cited hadiths from the books of Sunnah, embellished rulings with numerous secondary issues and useful insights, and recorded authentic supplications. He quoted from his teachers and from the commentators of Al-Minhaj, attributing sayings to their original authors.
Thus, the book is beneficial and useful, of moderate size, and supported by evidence without comparison to other madhahib.
