When one handles this significantly elaborate topic of soul purification and its aspects in light of verses and authentic a??d?th, one deduces solid principles and comprehensive foundational rules that pave the way to purifying souls.
The most significant principle in this respect is that soul purification is a divine blessing. All?h only sanctifies whom He wills. All?h, the Almighty, says,
“Have you not seen those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay, but All?h sanctifies whom He pleases.” [S?rah An-Nis?’ 4:49]
“And had it not been for the Grace of All?h and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins. But All?h purifies (guides to Isl?m) whom He wills, and All?h is All-Hearer, All-Knower.” [S?rah An-N?r 24:21]
All?h also says,
“They regard as a favor upon you (O Mu?ammad) that they have embraced Isl?m. Say: ‘Count not your Isl?m as a favor to me. Nay, but All?h has conferred a favor upon you, that He has guided you to the Faith if you indeed are true.’” [S?rah Al-Hujur?t 49:17]
